King Rajaraja Chola's Quest for the Secret of Universal Happiness Story Line
King Rajaraja Chola, who ruled Thanjavur, had a doubt.
His question was, what is the thing that can bring happiness to everyone in the world? Not only scholars but also the people can give the correct explanation to the king's question.
Put the thing that makes everyone happy in the Kolumandapam in the palace.
Whoever's thing gives the correct answer to the king's doubt, it was announced that he would receive a thousand gold coins as a prize.
The people thought about it and brought the things that brought happiness to them and kept them in the Kolumandapam of the palace and waited for the prize of a thousand gold coins.
The next day, King Rajaraja Chola came to the Kolumandapam and looked.
The hall was full of the things that the people had placed.
The king kept looking at each and every item. First, there was a small amount of gold.
Below it was written that wealth can bring happiness.
But the king rejected it as this was not the correct explanation because he did not know how wealth can bring happiness to the rich and the sick.
Next was a musical instrument, below which was written that music can bring happiness.
But he rejected it saying how can this music bring happiness to the deaf? He could not accept it either.
Next there were beautiful flowers, how can these bring happiness to the blind? He rejected it saying how can this also be accepted.
Next there were sweet fruits, how can sweetness bring happiness to the sick? King Rajaraja Chola rejected that too. Next he came near a big Shivalinga.
Below that Shivalinga was a sculpture in which a mother was designed as if she was feeding a hungry boy.
Below that sculpture was written, "Dear Shiva". Seeing that, the king understood the truth.
He said, "Bring the sculptor who made this statue." As per the king's order.
A poor sculptor with a body eaten by poverty was brought before the king.
Did you put this statue here? Explain what its meaning is, the king said to the sculptor. King, I am a sculptor.
I designed this statue for my servant. Below the Shivalinga, a woman is lovingly feeding a boy.
In this world, only love can be felt by the blind, the deaf, and the speechless. Similarly, even those who are physically disabled expect love.
Only love can achieve everything in the world. If there is love, it can make an enemy a friend.
If there is no love, it can make a friend an enemy.
This is the only love that is best in the world and can bring happiness to all living beings.
In short, love is God. That is why I designed a woman with motherly love below the Shivalinga and wrote, "Dear Shiva." The king was very happy to hear this.
What a wonderful explanation for my doubt about what can bring happiness to everyone in the world.
Since you are a sculptor, do the sculpture work yourself for the Thanjavur temple that I am building, he said.
The king also gave the sculptor a thousand gold coins as a gift and improved the poor sculptor's standard of living.
